HANDMADE
KAUAI
ALOHA SHIRTS HIT THE WEB
Kauai, HI – March 1, 2004 - Two Kauai entrepreneurs have kicked
the New Year
off by launching a new website dedicated to Hawaiian Aloha and Batik
shirts made on the island of Kauai.
Tim Dineen and Natalia Ippolito started their web business
for specific reasons. In this day and age, we are being
overrun by machines and new technology. Even though, we cannot
fight the changes, we can support our local Mom and Pop companies,
who have dedicated their lives, like Jacqueline Vienna of “Jacqueline on Kauai”.
Divineisland.com hand picks beautiful Rayon and Cotton/Rayon
fabrics and patterns, while Jacqueline lovingly sews each Aloha
shirt by hand. We use handmade coconut buttons and put plenty
of Aloha in each shirt. You can choose from conversational and
traditional to gorgeous Batik patterns

best-trained drivers on the road, we can continue to surpass our

HVCB WINS
2003 ADRIAN AWARDS ADVERTISING
WAIKIKI – The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association
International (HSMAI) has recognized the Hawaii Visitors and
Convention Bureau (HVCB) for excellence in travel advertising and
public relations with four 2003 Adrian Awards.
HVCB’s advertising agency, Milici Valenti Ng Pack, won a
Silver Award in the Advertising Series for its TV campaign and a
Bronze Award for small space print ads. The agency also won a Silver
award in the Complete Campaign category.
The Bureau’s public relations firm, McNeil Wilson
Communications, won a Bronze award in the Destination Consumer
Marketing category for the initiative to bring the Society of
American Travel Writers Association (SATW) to
Hawaii
for its 2002 annual convention that resulted in
extensive media coverage for all islands.
“These prestigious marketing awards are testament to the
excellent creative programs that come from the teamwork that HVCB
enjoys with its agencies,” said John Monahan, HVCB president and
CEO. “Travel from
North America
rose 3.1 percent in 2003 and continues to grow.
Clearly the execution of our marketing programs under the guidance
of the Hawaii Tourism Authority is part and parcel of this
success.”
The HSMAI marketing competition began in 1956 and is named
after prominent hotel executive Adrian W. Philips who later became
the first hotel instructor at
Cornell
University
’s School of Hotel Administration. The annual

Waikoloa
Beach Marriott's Spa Introduces Asian Treatments
WAIKOLOA, Hawaii's Big Island, February 24, 2004 –
Appropriately enough for its location between the U.S. mainland and
the Orient, the spa at the award-winning Waikoloa Beach Marriott on
the Big Island of Hawaii is introducing Asian influences in their
spa applications.
For example, the Hawaiian Rainforest Salon & Spa now
offers new Thai treatments that consist of deep stretching massages
(think of yoga stretches) and soft tissue manipulation to release
tension. The 75-minute Thai Stretch Massage with Aromatic
Herbs costs $145. The aromatic Thai herbs-lemon grass,
galangal, camphor, kaffir lime leaves and ground ginger root-are
warmed and applied to various pressure points to enhance the body's
chi, or energy.
Since green tea contains powerful antioxidants that are said
to destroy free radicals, slow aging, boost the immune system and
have a generally beneficial effect on health, it too has been
incorporated into facials, body masks and body scrubs. In
fact, since word got out that the Japanese who drink the most green
tea have some of the world's lowest cancer rates,
green tea treatments have become the hot ticket.
The 50-minute Green Tea Facial costs $110.
The 50-minute Green Tea Body Mask costs $120.
The 50-minute Green Tea Body Glow exfoliation treatment
costs $75.
Another favorite, based on traditional Hawaiian healing arts,
is the 75-minute Lava Kava Java package, which wraps guests in a Big
Island aloha with a Kona coffee body polish, followed by a lilikoi-kava
Rainforest Vichy shower and a full-body warm body lava rock massage.
The 75-minute, $145 island-style treatment not only nourishes
and smooths the skin, but also relaxes and soothes the
muscles.
Outrigger
Partners for Whales
WAIKIKI
-- Outrigger Hotels & Resorts has taken a major step
toward enriching their guests' experience with the wonders of the
Pacific Ocean
by partnering with Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean
Futures Society and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, two of
the most respected organizations in the field of marine exploration,
education and
preservation.
The Honolulu-based hotelier, which operates 50 properties in
Hawaii
,
Australia
and across the Pacific, has entered the agreements to jointly pursue
projects in 2004 that inform, educate and enrich the experiences of
guests staying at an Outrigger or OHANA Hotels throughout the
Pacific.
The partnerships were jointly announced during a special
dedication ceremony that included the unveiling of the Humpback
Whale Information Kiosk, a new whale-tail shaped touch-screen
computer system created by the National Marine Sanctuary Program and
installed in the lobby at the Outrigger Reef hotel in
Waikiki
.
The 600-pound, one-of-kind prototype, was designed, built and
programmed at
a cost of $30,000 over a two-year period through a cooperative
effort between the National Marine Sanctuary and its parent
organization, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
National Marine Sanctuary Foundation will assist Outrigger
with comprehensive educational and outreach programs centered around
Hawaii
's
unique marine life with an emphasis on the North Pacific Humpback
Whale, which migrates each winter to breed and calve in the waters
off the
Hawaiian
Islands
.
The foundation will coordinate a series of permanent educational
exhibits, expert lectures, ocean activities and community service
projects at Outrigger's various properties. By far the most
novel component is the Marine Life Kiosk, a prototype that took more
than two years to complete.
Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Futures Society will provide a
variety of multi-media information and learning tools for Outrigger
guests. The main component to be introduced this summer is the
"Friends of the Reef Adventure Guide" which will be
distributed on a request basis at the front desk and inserted into
all Island Explorer Kits given free to children ages 5 to 10. A
series of five-minute mini documentaries entitled "Sea
Scopes" will air throughout the Outrigger and OHANA Hotels in
Waikiki
and where video systems allow.
