Marylou Foley
has been appointed to the newly created position of Public Relations
Manager, Waikiki Beachfront Division for Outrigger Hotels. Foley is
now responsible for the public relations and promotional efforts on
behalf of Outrigger's two
Oahu
beachfront properties - the Outrigger Waikiki and Outrigger Reef
hotels.
Foley has been with Outrigger since 1996. During that time
she has assisted
with development initiatives on behalf of several of Outrigger's
Pacific properties in
Palau
,
Guam
,
Tahiti
and
Fiji
. She
was director of marketing for the former Outrigger Marshall Islands
Resort, and assisted with numerous outreach initiatives on behalf of
the company's OHANA Keauhou Beach Resort on
Hawaii
's
Big
Island
.
Douglas Kahikina Chang
and Cheryl A. Williams have named to the Hawai`i Tourism
Authority (HTA) Board of Directors. Both Chang and Williams
will serve as interim representatives on the board. Their
appointments, which will need to be confirmed by the State Senate in
the next legislative session, run from July 1, 2004, through June
30, 2008.
Chang is general
manager of the Hotel Hana on
Maui
. He
has been hotel manager for Kaua`i Marriott Resort & Beach Club
and general manager for Hanalei Bay Resort. He serves as
president of the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association.
Williams is the
regional director of sales and marketing (
Hawai`i
and
French Polynesia
) for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawai`i.
She previously served as the director of sales and marketing
in various regions for the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, the Royal
Hawaiian Hotel and Pan Pacific Hotels & Resorts.
Alan White, Vice President of Operations and Information Technology,
has been given the prestigious
Chairman's Award by Outrigger Enterprises.
The award is reserved for managers who have distinguished
themselves through an outstanding contribution to the company. White
has produced numerous new interfaces to the company's proprietary
Central Reservations System (CRS) and Property Management System
(PMS), Stellex.
Daven
Hermosura is new Westbound Sales
Manager for Paradise Cruise. In
his new position, Hermosura assists and manages sales and promotions
for westbound accounts and local military outlets.
These accounts sell
Oahu
cruises aboard the 1,500-passenger Star of
Honolulu and 340-passenger Starlet, as well as
Maui
’s newest catamaran, the 149-passenger Spirit
of Lahaina. Hermosura also maintains his position as Manager of the
Star of Honolulu’s Five Star Dinner Cruise, providing the ultimate
dining experience along the
Waikiki
coastline.
Barbara Gusman has been named to the position of Senior Sales Manager,
based at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. Gusman replaces Luana
Maitland, who has moved to the newly created position of Events
& Activities Manager for the hotel.
For the past nine years, she has been a member of the sales
team at the Wailea Marriott Resort on
Maui
. For the
last five years she has been recognized as the top producing sales
manager at the Wailea resort, and in 2003, she was selected as the
hotel's manager of the year.
Maitland has over
20 years of experience in hotel management, sales, group sales and
customer service. Prior to joining Outrigger, she spent nine years
with Colony Hotels and Resorts and eleven years with tour wholesaler
Classic
Hawaii
.
Hoteliers name their best
WAIKIKI, January 9, 2004— Marion Sato, a Kahala concierge
at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hawaii, was named the Outstanding
Lodging Employee of the Year at the Hawai‘i Hotel & Lodging
Association's (HHLA) Na Po‘e Pa‘ahana (the hardworking people)
awards luncheon today at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort
& Spa.
Sato was selected to receive the hotel industry’s top
annual award based on her dedication and commitment to serving
guests and fellow employees at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hawaii.
The Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year award was one of
11 awards presented at the annual statewide luncheon honoring
Hawaii
’s top hospitality industry employees.
Food and beverage person of the year is Kevin Matsuda,
teppanyaki chef at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa. Hyatt
employee of 17 years, Matsuda has delighted teppanyaki patrons for
10 years at the Musashi restaurant with his dazzling cooking skills,
delicious food and entertaining magic tricks.
As a testament to his excellence in service and dedication to
his craft, Matsuda was awarded Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort &
Spa’s “Employee of the Year” award in 2001.
Marjorie Kubota, Musashi restaurant manager, said, “Kevin
delights our customers with his unique ability to combine dexterous
cooking skills and fun magic tricks.
His efforts have dramatically enhanced Musashi restaurant’s
image, sales and operations.”

Donald “Donnie” Yannell, senior vice president and area manager
of First Hawaiian Bank-Waikiki Branch, was named Allied Member of
the Year. For more than 25 years, Yannell has been an active
member of the HHLA, ensuring the financial stability of the
association as treasurer, actively sitting on committees that assist
in setting HHLA’s agenda, and participating in association events.
Peter Thoene is the new director of sales & marketing for
the Waikoloa Beach Marriott and Wailea Marriott, both
Outrigger-owned and managed resorts, and is responsible for the
combined sales forces of these two deluxe beachfront resorts. Thoene
has been director of sales & marketing for the past four years
at the
Big
Island
's
Waikoloa Beach Marriott.
Roy Cordeiro has been named the new director of sales and
marketing for the Outrigger Waikiki and the Outrigger Reef hotels,
both located on the beach in
Waikiki
.
He has moved to from his most recent position as director of
sales & marketing at the Wailea Marriott on
Maui
.
He will initially focus his efforts on the launch plan for the
newly renovated Outrigger Waikiki, and in 2005 begin similar plans
for the Outrigger Reef, which is scheduled for a major renovation at
that time.
Jay Talwar named
marketing head of HVCB
WAIKIKI
, December 21 – The Hawaii Visitors and
Convention Bureau (HVCB) has chosen
Honolulu
advertising executive Jay Talwar as vice
president of marketing. He begins work at the Bureau on January 1.
Talwar was director of account service at HVCB’s
advertising agency Milici Valenti Ng Pack (MVNP) and has led the
agency’s HVCB account team for the past four years. Milici was
recently awarded a new four-year contract to provide advertising
services for HVCB in
North America
.
In announcing the decision, John Monahan, HVCB president and
CEO, stated, “Jay brings an extensive background in strategic
planning and brand development. He has been a leading figure in
HVCB’s successful campaigns in
North America
these past few years and has impressed us with
his expertise, vision and leadership.
Talwar was a senior executive at MVNP for six years and an
active member of the Strategic Planning Group of its affiliate
agency DDB Needham Worldwide, Inc.
He fills the marketing position formerly held by David Preece,
who left HVCB in April to become president and CEO of The Travel
Institute in
Wellesley
,
MA
.
Talwar started his career in
San Francisco
and has worked in advertising for more than 20
years. He relocated to
Hawaii
in 1995 and worked as a senior executive at Peck
Sims Mueller Advertising, before joining MVNP.
