continues to record (20 albums to date) and tour
overseas. He and his band give concerts across the
country and have a strong following in Japan and
Europe.
Sanchez has become known for boogaloo (or
bugalu) sounds -- a danceable, crossover blend of
cha-cha, rhythm & blues (R & B), soul, and jazz -- that
has been enjoying a resurgence since it was introduced
in the 1960’s. His unique sound has evolved over the
years as he has woven the rhythm & blues tunes that were

Hilton Builds new
Ocean Crystal Chapel
First in Waikiki
Hilton Hotels Corporation and Best Bridal
Hawaii, Inc. held a groundbreaking ceremony recently for
Waikiki’s first free-standing resort wedding chapel. The
first level will be nestled amongst lush landscaping and
cascading waterfalls, offering an inviting
observatory-like glass entrance that leads into a
wedding boutique.
The $5 million chapel will seat
approximately 80 guests and will offer panoramic views
through floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Construction
commenced in June with the first weddings anticipated in
December.

Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa
has entered into a long-term lease with the Hawaii-based
Best Bridal Hawaii. Under that lease, Best Bridal Hawaii
will operate the Ocean Crystal Chapel offering complete
wedding services.
“We are very excited to add the chapel to
our resort offerings,” said Peter Schall, senior vice
president of Hilton Hotels Corporation, Hawaii region
and managing director of Hawaiian Village Beach Resort &
Spa. “With the new chapel, we can offer our guests an
even more complete destination experience,” said Schall.
A landscaped stairway will lead to the upper
level chapel. An elevator from the ground level to the
second floor will allow brides to make a grand entrance
into the chapel. Fronting the chapel and situated in a
shallow lagoon will be a wedding gazebo that will offer
an additional ceremony option for couples.
“The stunning visuals of the chapel and
gazebo, enhanced by white swans and other wildlife, will
offer couples a picture-perfect wedding setting,” said
Schall. “The gentle oasis-like setting will transport
couples into another world – yet they are just steps
away from their guest rooms and all of the resort
services and conveniences,” said Schall.
Best Bridal Hawaii, Inc., a consolidated
subsidiary of the Best Bridal Group in Japan, will
handle the booking arrangements and coordination of the
weddings, from assisting with the wedding gown and
tuxedo to hiring musicians and photographers. The Hilton
Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa staff will make
arrangements for any food and beverage needs of the
bridal party, and has created special menus for private
suites, function rooms, resort restaurants and outdoor
venues.
The Best Bridal Group was founded by its CEO
and president, Masayuki Tsukada, who brings over 40
years of experience to the wedding industries in Japan
and Hawaii. As the name suggests, Best Bridal is a
specialized wedding production company that created a
new generation of weddings in Japan by founding the
“guesthouse” concept. Today, Best Bridal is rated as one
of the fastest-growing and progressive service
companies.
“We look forward to bringing a new
dimension of weddings to Hawaii, not only from Japan,
but from the mainland U.S., the local community, and
other international wedding markets,” said Karen Mukai,
vice president of Best Bridal Hawaii, Inc.
The two-level structure was designed by Jeff
Long of Long & Associates AIA, Inc. The general
contractor is Dick Pacific Construction Co., Ltd.
Waikiki trying for
world record
Hula line
In celebration of the Honolulu’s Centennial,
thousands of hula dancers of all ages, races and levels
of expertise will unite to participate in ResortQuest
Hawaii’s Honolulu Centennial “Hula on the Beach” event
on Saturday, August 20, 2005, at 4:30 p.m. At this epic
event, hula enthusiasts, visitors and kama’aina will be
able to share their aloha for Honolulu as they
simultaneously dance their own versions of “I
Fell-In-Love With Honolulu” on Waikiki Beach to create
the longest ever, continuous hula line in history.
The line will start at Kuhio Beach and
stretch toward the airport.

Event organizers have contacted Guinness
Worlds Records to potentially have the record-setting
event officially recognized as a world’s record,
however, no confirmation has yet been received on their
official involvement. The event, whether it will be an
official Guinness Worlds Records’ event or not, will go
on as planned in the spirit of sharing the Hawaiian art
of hula, the aloha spirit, and city pride that residents
and visitors share for Honolulu – one of the world’s
most dynamic cities.
The song “I Fell-In-Love With Honolulu” by
Neil McKay will be sung by none-other-than Honolulu
Mayor Mufi Hannemann. Cox Radio Hawaii will play the
recording at 4:30 p.m. simultaneously on Hawaiian KINE
105.1 FM and KKNE 940 AM. All “Hula on the Beach”
participants will be asked to bring a battery-powered
radio with them to create a “grass roots” stereo effect
all along Waikiki Beach, doing away with the need for a
beach-wide sound system.
Hawaiian’s Turnaround

Lindsey has traveled extensively throughout
the world, from concerts to cruise ships to clubs as a

sideman for various recording artists from Hawaii. He
attributes these experiences as influences to his blend

staunch proponent of 'live' music. No karaoke, no drum
machines, sequencers, or lip-synching," says Lindsey.
Whether it's rock, jazz, pop or Hawaiian music, Zanuck
